This is a compact wedge of black carbon steel with a purposeful, almost sculptural shape, designed to sit on a hearth or bench and look the part. It suits a rustic, cabin or modern-farmhouse setting where the fire is part of the room. Instead of swinging an axe, you place a log on the fixed blade and strike it with a mallet, so kindling splits cleanly with your hands kept well clear. Two screws let it be fixed to a block or wall, and a cloth bag is included for carrying it to a campsite or firepit.
